Books in the News
News came from Stockholm this month that the Nobel Peace Prize 2011 was awarded jointly to peace activists Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Leymah Gbowee and Tawakkul Karman "for their non-violent struggle for the safety of women and for women’s rights to full participation in peace-building work".
Author and Peace Activist Leymah Gbowee
Our staff has been raving about Ms. Gbowee's new book, Mighty Be Our Powers, which details her successful efforts to found Liberian Mass Action for Peace and marshall the strength of Christian and Muslim women to help oust Liberian dictator Charles Taylor. The book is available for purchase at The Traveler or through this website. Click here to read an excerpt from the book.
Ms. Gbowee's work will also be featured in a documentary, Pray the Devil Back to Hell, which aired on October 18th as part of the new PBS series, Women, War and Peace.
