Ethiopia's Hamar Tribe: An Ancient and Endangered Culture
The Hamar Tribe lives much as they have for generations, following their livestock in search of grazing grounds, but drought, shrinking homelands and declining resources are threatening their existence. Bainbridge Islander Lori Sweningsen works with the Global Team for Local Initiatives (GTLI) to create long-term solutions for people on the verge of extinction. She will show video and slides of Hamar life and describe how GTLI programs work with the tribe to develop income generating activities and sustainable projects.

Smiling at the World: A Woman's Yearlong Quest for Adventure
Joyce Major reinvigorated her life by putting together a chain of volunteer vacations, staying a month on each project. She worked with rescued elephants in Thailand, tended lion cubs in South Africa, taught English in China, studied Portuguese in Brazil, was a restoration worker in Italy -- and wrote about it all in her award-winning book, Smiling at the World.
